How to Get Diaper Cream Out of Clothes

No matter how much you love your newborn, you are not going to love diaper cream stains in your newly laundered (and only clean) clothes! A diaper cream stain might seem almost impossible to remove.

But, there is a way! In this article, we will show you how to get diaper cream out of clothes easily, without a big fuss. You can now get back to taking care of your newborn cooing till the cows come home.

First Use Paper Towels or Rags

The first step in diaper cream removal is to wipe up as much of the extra diaper cream from your stained clothes as possible using paper towels or rags. Try not to use baby wipes for this, as it will introduce extra moisture into the stain and that's something you don't want. Once you do this, the big gooey mess should just be a stain, rather than a spill.

Then Degrease the Stain

The problem with diaper cream is that it's very greasy and stains so heavily that laundry detergent won't be enough. You could try using a bit of dish soap and water, trying to degrease the stain that way.

But if that doesn't work, then you will need to bring in the big guns. Any major degreaser that you already have in your laundry room may work. You can run the diaper cream stained clothes through one or two cycles and see if the stain is removed.

Rub Alcohol or White Vinegar

If you are working with a diaper cream that has Zinc Oxide in it (like Desitin), then you can use rubbing alcohol on that stain. Spray alcohol on the stain and run it under cold water, adding in more alcohol as needed.

ALWAYS air-dry clothes after removing a grease stain, as the heat from the dryer will set the grease stain in even deeper.

When using white vinegar for diaper cream stains, rub the item with dish soap and water first either with your fingers or an old clean toothbrush. Then soak it in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Launder as usual after that.
