Why Drop Baby Wipes

As diaper lotion advocates, we’re all about dropping the baby wipes as much as possible.

But it’s not just because we love diapering lotion that we don’t believe in using baby wipes. We recommend avoiding baby wipes because they can do more harm than good to your perfect bundle of joy.

Today, we’re going to look at four reasons to drop the baby wipes and start using an alternative (and just as simple!) diaper change method.

4 reasons to drop baby wipes

We’ve all been there - using convenient products that save us time, money, and energy. But are baby wipes worth it? Do they do more harm than good? And are there alternative ways to clean our baby’s bottoms that don’t do any damage?

Here are four reasons to drop baby wipes…

1. They’re not antibacterial

Although some of the ingredients in baby wipes can help remove and repel some microbes, they’re not antibacterial.

2. They can contain harsh chemicals

Unfortunately, baby wipes are packed with harsh chemicals that do more harm than good to your baby’s delicate skin. Baby wipes can contain hormone disrupters, allergens, and carcinogens.

Here are just a few toxic ingredients that you’ll find in the majority of baby wipes:

  • Fragrance
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • Cocamidopropyl Betaine
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Polyethylene

3. They increase the risk of irritation

Although it’s easy to trust baby wipes to give our little ones a squeaky clean bottom, they can actually cause skin irritation.

Baby wipes are incredibly drying to the skin and leave no protective barrier to prevent your baby’s acidic pee and poop from making their bottoms itchy, red, and uncomfortable. Also, if the skin is not dried properly after using a wipe, it can contribute to moisture build up in the diaper and the appearance of a diaper rash.

4. They are harmful to the environment

Baby wipes contain microplastic that is virtually indestructible. Because of that, it can take a single baby wipe 100 years to decompose! Although biodegradable wipes decompose in much less time (3-6 months), this still gives them lots of time to harm wildlife, make their way into water systems, and damage the environment.

What to use instead of baby wipes

At this point, we want to assure you that all is not lost!

Although you may have thrown your final multi-pack of baby wipes out the window once and for all (don't do that, there are alternate uses for it), there are other ways to clean your baby. And the best news? It doesn’t have to cost the world…

The simplest and most affordable way to clean your baby’s bum is with water and cotton pads. There’s really no need for anything fancy when cleaning up stinky messes!

What can be useful in your diaper station is a product that also protects and nourishes your baby’s bottom.

La Petite Creme Diapering Lotion is Certified organic and EWG Verified. It contains six natural ingredients that help to soothe and prevent diaper rash so that you and your baby can avoid red bottoms completely!

Here, we tell you more about the ingredients we chose and how they care for your little one’s sensitive skin.

A final note…

We understand that, as moms, there are enough things to worry about without having to think about whether or not your baby is coming into contact with harmful chemicals.

Because of this, we made our products to provide you with an easy solution to organic diapering without having to do hours of research into confusing lists of ingredients.

But we also understand that baby wipes are one of the cheapest ways to clean your baby’s bottom. To keep costs down, you only need to use 1-2 pumps of our diaper lotion each time you change your baby’s diaper - our products aren’t made to run out after a handful of uses!
